Albian Sands is committed to public consultation based on
these fundamental principles:
Our preferred means of communication is face to face
but we also participate in community presentations, forums and
committees and provide media updates.
Albian Sands supports and participates in regional,
multi-stakeholder initiatives developed to address common regional
concerns. These include:
- Environmental Management - We are founding members and
active participants of the Cumulative Environmental Management
Association (CEMA). CEMA provides a forum for regional stakeholders to
discuss and make consensus-based decisions and recommendations to the
Regional Sustainable Development Strategy on managing the region's
cumulative environmental effects.
- Regional Issues Working Group (RIWG) - works to facilitate oil sands
development by identifying and prioritizing regional infrastructure
issues, determining the responsible authorities and forwarding
information to assist with planning and resolution of these issues.
Membership includes representatives from regional developers,
municipal, provincial and federal government, associated industry, and
the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo.
- Athabasca Tribal Council/Athabasca Resource Development
Working Group (ATC/ARD) The ATC/ARD - agreement is focused on
capacity-building with the five First Nations of the Wood Buffalo
region in the areas of environment and long term benefits; jobs and
education; health; human infrastructure; and physical infrastructure.
Signatories include representation from the Athabasca Tribal Council,
three levels of government and resource developers.
- Wood Buffalo Environmental Association (WBEA) - conducts
the air-monitoring program for the Wood Buffalo region. Membership
includes resource developers, government, non-government environmental
organizations and Aboriginal community representation.
- Community Career Cooperative - Albian has been integral in the
creation of this new career and education organization. The CCC is the
result of hard work by many individuals in Northern Alberta and the
realization that by banding together we can provide links between the
community and careers.
